Local Plan

Local authorities must prepare local plans for their area which set out the long term development strategy. A local plan provides the starting point for determining planning applications and guiding investment decisions. It contains planning policies and allocates sites that will provide new housing and employment opportunities.

The East Riding Local Plan Update was adopted in 2025.

Baseline and Monitoring

To prepare the next local plan, we must gather data, information and undertake a ‘survey’ of our area to help understand the issues, challenges and opportunities within the East Riding. Through this, we can identify the priorities for development and prepare a vision for the next local plan.
